How To: Reset My Password For The First Login (RDP)

Whether you need to reset your password due to forgetting it, the system informing you that you’re due to reset it, or have locked your account due to six failed login attempts, this article will detail the the process. Keep in mind that this is for the FIRST login which gives you access to the server environment (or RDP), not the SECOND password that gives access to the software itself.

If your password has expired or your locked out of your account, you’ll need to first reach out to support to request your password be reset.

Automated Password Reset Emails

In an effort to keep your passwords up to date and avoiding unexpected password resets, we will email you a reminder to reset your password. This email will be automatically sent to the email we have on file for each user and will list the steps you need to follow on the new server to reset your password 10 days before it expires.  This email will also be sent out every day until you reset the password or the password expires.

Below is an example of what the password reset reminder looks like. Keep in mind if the email is coming from us it will have "Password Expiration Notice" in the subject line, be coming from HelpDesk@CarvinSoftware.com, and lists the steps on how to reset your password. Carvin Software will never ask for your password. If you fail to reset your password in time, you'll need to reach out to support and request a temporary password that will allow you to reset your password.

Resetting On The Server (Password Hasn’t Expired)

If the password hasn’t expired, you can still log onto the server and go through the password reset process here. Once you log on, click the windows icon on the bottom left, then select the “Change Password” box.

From here you’ll click the option to “Change a password”. The next screen is where you’ll see your username structured as CS\FirstName.Lastname , with the boxes to enter the current password, and the new password twice. Once entered, click the arrow to complete the reset process.

When resetting the password while logged onto the server, the username does NOT require the “@CarvinSoftware.com” at the end of the username.

Resetting On The Website (Password Expired/Forgotten)

If your account is locked or your password is expired, you’ll need to reach out to support via phone or email and request a password reset. Support will then generate a password and send an invite with a link where the user can view and copy the temporary password to the email address assigned to the user that’s getting the password reset. This means that if you request the password reset for someone else, you’ll need to direct them to their email where they’ll receive the link for the temporary password as shown below.

The one time share link will take you a page similar to the below screen where the user can easily see and open the password reset website, their username, as well as view and copy their temporary password.

If you’re not sure which email address is on file for a user the support team can inform you, however changes to the email for a user must come from the person who signed the contract with Carvin Software.

With this temporary password, you’ll open up an internet browser and navigate to https://connect.carvinsoftware.com which will give you the below screen.

From here you’ll enter in your username, which will be structured as FirstName.LastName@CarvinSoftware.com and your temporary Password1 for the password, then click “Sign in”. The screen will refresh and largely look the same, but now you’ll have the message that your password is expired with a link to click and change it. Click the word “here”.

Once you click the “here” link, you’ll be taken to the next page that will display your username, a current password box with the pre-filled temporary password, and two empty boxes where you can enter and confirm your new password. Once filled out, click “Submit” and you’ll see the message that the password has been successfully changed. Below are the password requirements:

  • Cannot Contain your first or last name

  • Cannot contain the word password

  • Must be at least 12 characters long

  • Must start with a letter

  • Must include a capital letter

  • Must include a number
